1- The quiz is boring because it focuses only on one tense, that is why it is not challenging in the sense that the choice is very clear.
2- You focus on the structure not the uses. I mean for example, he.........to school everyday. Of course the choice is goes because the subject is singular. This is because of the nature of your test (as I said in point 1). The questions repeat the same idea.

It is better not use meaningless words such as 'gos' which may mislead the students and think that there is such a word but not in this context. You can use went, going, is going, gone, goes, will go, etc. You have many options.
