The question "In what year did the USA reach the current territorial extension?" should be reworded, as that only accounts for the contiguous ('lower 48') states – for example, Hawaii was not annexed by the US until 1898, and did not become a state until 1959.

Yes, you're right. I meant only the lower states, I wrote that date with a bit of hurry. Unfortunately I totally forgot about Hawaii😓 (I'm not American). That's such a pity. I wish I could change the question and the answer.
