How can 19th-century art and literature be still copyrighted?

Fancy Raven Just figured I could explain that a little, I'm not an expert but I've been dealing with copyrights in the past:
So the art itself is not copyrighted, however the digital copy of the art can be and in your case is. Photographer took the picture, cleaned it up digitally and published, so they hold the copyright to that specific picture of art that is in public domain.

And it is stated underneath that while painting is public domain, that specific photo of it is under license that allows you to use it IF you leave attribution.
