English
Intermediate
Adjectives can tell you what an object looks like, what its size is and how it feels to the touch. They can describe people and places in the same way. In the sentence "It was a warm, sunny, breezy day", the adjectives modifying the noun "day" are "warm", "sunny" and "breezy". In the sentence "He examined the old weather-beaten chest", the adjectives modifying the noun "chest" are "old" and "weather-beaten". One of the most frequent jobs for an adverb to perform is to add information to the verb. In the sentence, "He shouted loudly to his friend", the verb is "shouted" and the adverb is "loudly". The word "loudly" modifies the verb.
