handy is certainly from english, not from german
Sorry but German is korrekt. In English it's mostly called "Cellular Phone, Cellphone oder Mobile Phone". In the old days it was named first in Germany "Handy" ca. 1992. I checked it in Wikipedia.
The word handy comes from the English language. Something comes in handy, meaning something is convenient. German adapted it as a noun for mobile phones, correct; but the word itself comes from the english language
